17th C. battle scene with attached plaque attributing work to Jacques Courtois (French/ Italian, 1621 - 1675), oil on canvas, depicts a group of cavalry, trapped atop the narrowness of a bridge, being attacked by infantrymen with pikes, injured men and horses scatter the peripheral, held in an ornately designed gilt frame with floral motif in high relief and artist plaque at center, wear consistent with age including craquelure, scattered loss mostly to edges of canvas, toning, etc, loss to frame, not examined out of frame, ss: 28 1/2" h. x 38" w.; frame size: 41" h. x 50 3/4" w. x 3 1/2" d.
