19th C. Continental School icon attributed to Bruils (Belgian, 19th C.), "Jesus", oil on canvas depicting Christ in vermillion tunic with jewel-encrusted collar and teal cloak draped over left shoulder, no visible signature but handwritten paper label attached to bottom stretcher verso attributes work to "Bruils, a Belgian", same label also provides following provenance: "Given to Mrs. Anna Richmond (Mrs. G.M.R) by her son Frank Eddy Richmond in Rome 1867. Left by her in her will to F.E.R 1881. Sold by F.E.R to Howard Richmond March 1906", contained in period elaborately decorated gilt frame carved with textured scrolls, daffodils, cross-hatching, and putti with round shaped opening, scattered paint loss and holes, two tears located to left of figure's shoulder, isolated craquelure, some white spatter across figure's upper chest and head, two intact projecting cherubs in spandrels but two are missing, portion of partially detached frame trim at top, not examined out of frame, ss: 26 1/4" dia., frame measures 36 1/2" square.
