English sampler by Elizabeth Olliff, "Adam and Eve", 1833, silk on wool, verse at top: "You next to God Dear Parents I, Address Myself to you in humble, Thankfulness For all you[r] tender Care on me Bestowd the Gift of, Learning onto me Allowed Goon Dear Parents let me still Pursue, Those Golden Arts the Vulger nevr knew [sic]", large scene features an apple tree entwined by a snake, with identical figures at base (Adam and Eve, undifferentiated), birds and flowers worked on either side of the tree, maker's inscription at bottom: "Elizabeth Olliff in The 11 Year Of her Age 1833", modern frame, fair condition, scattered insect damage, with areas of loss especially in the center, dark discoloration throughout center, not examined out of frame, 12" h. x 14 3/4" w. frame; 9 5/8" h. x 12" w. sight.
