+ 19th C. oil on canvas, portrait of gentleman, sitter believed to be Elias Black Burton, label on top edge of frame, born in 1816 was an attorney and state legislator, he is depicted seated in front of books and drapes, holding "Robins vs Taylor" inscribed document, documents about sitter included, wear consistent with age, including relined, areas of inpainting to books and at some edges, etc. ss: 34 1/4" h. x 28 1/2" w.
