Early 19th C. oil on canvas, British, c. 1830, "Portrait of John Scott, second Earl of Eldon (1805-1854), depicts seated gentleman in dark suit, white collar and tie, dark hair, left arm on Rococo gilt table, legs crossed at angles, high boots, red drapery in background, 19th C. paper label verso: "Earl of Eldon, born 1801 [sic], Corfe Castle, Dorsetshire", also "pour tableau homme (?) directoire", in gilt frame with inner bullet molding, wear consistent with age including some paint loss, craquelure, inpainting, slight scratches, loss to frame, etc., sold as found, 22 5/8" h. x 17 1/4" w.
