Alfred Richard (American, 1937-2016), three wooden sculptures: abstract floor sculpture, solid sphere supported by four-sided tapering cylindrical base, inlaid designs and knots throughout depict abstracted faces, estate stamp underside, 42 3/4" h.; rotating hexagonal lozenge supported by conical base on square plank, three pieces assembled with wooden dowels, inlaid geometric designs and knots, lozenge pierced verso, rough surfaces, estate stamp underside, 33 3/4" h. x 11" w. x 8 7/8" d.; and relief sculpture possibly depicts flattened section of female torso, pair projecting lobes at top, inlaid with diamond and tear drop designs, estate stamp underside, 18" h. x 9 1/2" w. x 1 3/4" d. [Dr. Alfred Charles Richard Jr. attended Boston University, where he earned both masters and doctorate degrees in Latin American History. In 1965 he moved to Connecticut and accepted a professorship at Central Connecticut State University, a position he would hold until 2006. According to family members, iconography from Mayan and Aztec civilizations informs many aspects of his work.
