American screw-top candle stand, maple with rich brown finish, pair tin sockets on single arm lowered and raised on adjustable corkscrew standard, round table, turned standard, splayed tripod base, furniture scholar Robert Trent identifies as western CT, c. 1780-1800, early paper label located under table, expected wear including isolated scratches and checking, 29 3/4" h., table 13 1/2" dia. [Antiques collector, furniture restorer, and author Henry Hammond Taylor (Connecticut, 1878-1933) kept a detailed journal recording where and when he purchased early American antiques. He noted that this piece originated from the "Turner Dawson family of New Fairfield, Conn." Prior to Taylor''s death, he bequeathed items in his collection to descendants.][The Taylor Collection]
