Anglo-Indian Padouk wood inlaid ivory writing box, c. 1750, ivory plaque to top's center engraved with the arms of the Right Honorable Henry Pelham (brother and heir of the first Duke of Newcastle-under-Lyne) impaling the arms of his wife Lady Catherine Pelham nee Manners, eldest daughter of John, 2nd Duke of Rutland, ornately pierced mounted fretwork borders with flowering vine motif, corners feature carved ivory columns with fluting and classical designs, carved ivory skirt, decoration extends to all sides, flanking metal handles, satinwood type interior with open well and four drawers, wear consistent with age and use including scattered loss, repairs and damages to ivory, plaque cracked, checking and loss of finish to wood, etc., sold as is, 6" h. x 19" w. x 13 1/2" d.
