ASIAN: Five Japanese hanging scrolls with calligraphy, details include: Nakahara Nantenbo (Japan, 1839-1925), "untitled (Monk's staff)", early 20th C., ink spatter with gestural branches emerging, stylized calligraphy on either side, overall: 82" l.; scroll with five large painted characters, blue and mauve fabric, old label identifies calligrapher as Fukuzan, oa: 78" l.; scroll with central character, orange and blue fabric, old label identifies calligrapher as Dokuzan, oa: 47 1/2" l.; scroll with three vertical lines of calligraphy, beige fabric, oa: 67 1/2" l.; scroll with gestural paintings of flowers, line of text on upper right, dark blue fabric, oa: 82" l.; wear consistent with age and use. [PROVENANCE: From the Estate of Robert Wilson of Washington D.C. who resided in Japan in the 1950's.]
