ASIAN: Pair Meiji period (1868-1912) Japanese Satsuma vases on pierced wooden stands, each six-sided, depicting two scenes, first assembly of lavishly dressed deities and demons, foo lions and dragons in attendance, second group of armored samurai strategizing their next attack, gilt and multicolored, border areas feature representations of open fans, clouds, and kimono patterns, each bearing mark of Emperor Mutsuhito (Japanese, 1852-1912) underside base, some surface loss along edges of sides, crazing, 14 5/8" h. without stands, 15 7/8" with stands.
