Attributed to Johann Georg Wolcker (Austrian, 1700-1766), oil on canvas depicting biblical figures in classical landscape, Roman soldier in metal breastplate, plumed helmet, and red cape gesticulates to omnipotent eye of God top center, young man in blue gilt-edged tunic attempts to bypass soldier, backside of turbaned figure visible right middle ground, arch visible in upper left background, abandoned lyre in immediate right foreground, subject of painting variously interpreted as depiction of biblical figures Paul/Saul or David, indistinctly signed LR, paper fragment detached from back reads "Painted by G.G. Wolckher, 1735, signed in lower right corner", 20th C. inscription on relined canvas verso LR reads "Signature under canvas, cut outer canvas, Harry Kravetz", relined, repairs including patches, in-painting, craquelure, some buckling of paint, not examined out of 20th C.
