"Bad Accident" cast-iron mechanical toy, c. 1880-1900, unsigned but similar to J.E. Stevens models designed by F. H. Griffith, depicting black man seated in mule-drawn cart eating watermelon, when lever is released, little boy runs in front of wagon, mule rears up on hind legs, and man's arms raise to lift wedge of fruit to mouth, toy's name appears in raised letters opposite the little boy's side, cart parts and harness partly disassembled but included, some surface wear, fading and darkening of pigment, and minor paint loss, 6 1/8" h. x 10 1/8" w. x 3 3/8" d.
