Colonel Elmer Ellsworth commemorative water pitcher, c. 1861, by Millington, Astbury & Poulson, Trenton, N.J., molded stoneware pitcher illustrating the shooting of Colonel Elmer Ellsworth at Alexandria, VA, baluster form with spurred handle, Ellsworth lies dead at the bottom of the stairwell while "F.E. Brownell," fights and killes "J.W. Jackson / The Traitor" on the pitcher, reverse side is imprinted with the phrase "Union and the Constitution," and features a an American Eagle with serpent in beak perched above a fallen Confederate Flag, with an American Flag flying at right above a stack of rifles, wear consistent with age and use including small age cracks to spout and base, 8 1/4" h.
