Diminutive secretary desk, mid-19th C., American, mahogany and mahogany veneer, in two parts, upper case with molded top over two shaped panel cabinet doors over two short drawers, note inside door inscribed with family descent of ownership, lower case with three graduated long drawers, two pull out supports flanking smaller top drawer, folding slant lid opens to reveal felted writing surface, raised on four shaped feet, wear consistent with age and use including detached hinge to slant lid, removed lock, replaced hardware, small repairs and damages/ loss, etc., 18 3/4" h. x 11" w. x 6 1/4" d. [PROVENANCE: Note to interior reads "This miniature book-case was given to Geo. Burton Hawley, by his Great-Grandmother Abigail Coleman Pelton (b. Nov. 29th, 1799 - d. Nov. 6th, 1877) when he was a small boy visiting there". Abigail Coleman Pelton was the mother of Elizabeth Anna Pelton.]
