DOCUMENTS: Two 18th C. manuscripts, American, both from Tiverton, Bristol County, Colony of Massachusetts (later Rhode Island) and framed behind glass, details include: earlier deed involves a parcel of town property jointly represented by three Tiverton residents, including a shipwright named Joseph Wanton, documenting a transaction of land purchased by Joseph Anthony, mentioning that he runs a ferry to Dartmouth, signed and sealed, slight loss at right side; second manuscript deed on paper, dated 1731, recording a property transaction between Thomas Manchester and Joseph Cook, formerly of Newport, Rhode Island, document is signed and sealed with red wax by the parties involved and attested to by Job Lawton, Justice of the Peace. The deed is written on a single sheet of paper and presented in a frame, both: 15" x 12" and 12" 7 1/4". [NOTE: Tiverton was originally part of the Massachusetts Bay Colony until 1746, when it was annexed to Newport County, Rhode Island, as a result of a long-standing boundary dispute between the two colonies. Both documents predate the town's transfer to Rhode Island jurisdiction.]
