Early 19th century sampler by Hannah Poole, age 11, American (poss. Pennsylvania), silk on very fine, sheer linen, spot sampler worked in very fine cross stitch in red and green, alphabet and numbers 1 thru 13 across top, at center top is the verse "NOW doth the little busy bee / Improve each shining hour/ And gather honey all the day / From every opening flower / Hannah Poole Aged 11 Years", center motif of a double-handled vase with large carnation flanked by other flowers, most of the motifs are floral in some manner, but there are also birds, dogs, a stag, a squirrel, and a bee, in modern wooden frame with gold inner frame under the glass, good condition with vertical crease down center, old moth larvae casing at bottom center, edge caught awkwardly under the frame at top right; not examined out of frame, 8 3/4" h. x 8 1/4" w.; frame: 13 1/2" h. x 13" w.
