Eastlake 2-pc hutch, c. 1890s, oak elaborately carved with geometric, egg and dart, scroll, foliate, rosette, and shell motifs incised and in relief, stepback upper case with mirrored back comprised of central cabinet with swing door containing two interior shelves flanked by stack of three open shelves with short gallery and turned spindles on either side, breakfront lower case has three short drawers over two cabinet doors flanking central short drawer, ornate pierce brass knobs and key plates, bottom right side glass panel cracked with small loss at UR corner, expected surface wear throughout including some loose or missing trim, Ziploc bag containing gadrooned trim, gallery balusters, and knobs included, comes with two keys, 83" h. x 54 1/2" w. x 19" d. [Provenance: Family oral history maintains that this piece was built by Andrew Reid, a relative of the consignor through his great-aunt. Reid, born around 1853, emigrated to Winsted, CT from Scotland around 1881. Reid was employed by the Gilbert Clock Co. for approximately forty years, starting out as a clockmaker but eventually becoming plant manager by his retirement.
