Edmund William Greacen (American, 1877-1949), "Noank Shipyard", 1912, oil on canvas, Impressionist style depiction of ship in dry dock, with workers congregating around huge hull laced with scaffolding, in palette of blues, greens, and violets, signed and dated "Edmund Greacen, 1912" LL, bottom stretcher verso inscribed, "This was painted by my father, Edmund Greacen, in Noank, CT. It is the major painting of a series done at this location, Nan Greacen, 1973", also handwritten inscription verso noting that work was exhibited in traveling museum show between April 1972-November 1973, as well as two original paper labels in sleeves verso, first from Meredith Long & Co., Houston, TX, second from William Benton Museum of Art, University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT, warping around stretchers, craquelure, tiny puncture marks near side margins, loss to Eli Wilner & Co. reproduction period carved and gilded frame, not examined out of frame, ss: 19 1/2" h. x 23 1/2" w.
