"Heart & Crown" banister back rockerized arm chair, Stratford, CT possibly Salmon Shop, c. 1750, maple, tulip poplar, and ash with later Victorian ebonized finish with gilt banding, turned stiles, legs, and stretchers, rush seat with some loss, crest repaired or possibly replaced at turn of the century, altered near stretchers, cut down around 4", scroll arm returns repaired (left glued, right partly replaced), outer stiles near crest have been repegged, approximately 43 3/4" h. x 26" w. x 26 1/2" d., seat height 15" h. [Antiques collector, furniture restorer, and author Henry Hammond Taylor (Connecticut, 1878-1933) kept a detailed journal recording where and when he purchased early American antiques. He noted that this piece came from Cecil Clarke in Milford, CT, adding that "one hook on arm [had been] restored."
