Description:

House of Worth black satin overgown, c. 1890's, museum provenance, details include: gown has train over white satin bodice, Worth label sewn on to waist, would be worn with a petticoat (not present) as the overgown features a split skirt, bodice is boned and laces up the back and is currently sewn into the overgown though not originally, decoration includes black lace with spangles down the front edges, sleeves are black and very voluminous with white lining that is visible through the black lace insert, white bodice also decorated with black lace at neckline, wear consistent with age and use including shattered silk lining, etc., sold as found, 19" from armpit to armpit, 74" from collar to back of hem (end of train). [PROVENANCE: Deaccessioned to benefit the Slater Memorial Museum's acquisition fund.]
