Description:

House of Worth fuchsia brocaded silk reception dress, c. 1890's, two pieces, jacket and skirt, museum provenance, details include: jacket is fully boned with leg-o-mutton sleeves and lapel collar, long tabs reaching below waist have circular weights sewn into them, hook and eye closures at front center, Worth label sewn to waist, museum label stapled to collar, fraying to collar and other expected wear, made for a larger woman, 18" from armpit to armpit, 31" from collar to tab end; skirt with train, lined in peach-colored watered silk taffeta, hem is deeply interlined with a stiff canvas-type fabric visible where the lining has fractured, flat front with cartridge pleats around the center back closure, 44 1/2" l. from waist to front of hem, 57" from waist to end of train, both pieces with wear consistent with age and use, sold as found.
