J. B. Spencer (American, 1829-1899) oil on canvas portrait of seated gentleman holding cane and spectacles, signed and dated LL "1869" and also inscribed verso painted by J. B. Spencer/Dec 1869, subject believed to be John Churchill Coffing of Salisbury, Connecticut region with depiction of iron mill or blast furnace through window, Spencer copied at an 1844 portrait by Edwin White currently in the collection of the Salisbury Association, ss: 36" h. x 29 3/8" w. without frame; 2" puncture LC near figure's hip.
