J.B. Owens Pottery Co. mustard yellow jardinière commemorating the sinking of the U.S.S. Maine (1898), showing four narrative scenes in relief: stern view of the U.S.S. Maine arriving in Havana Harbor, Cuba in late January 1898; two portraits in eagle-crested oval frames, one showing Captain Sigisbee; the explosion of the ship on 15 February 1898; and the bilateral American and Spanish Sampson Board's Court of Inquiry which convened after the sinking, all narrative scenes are annotated, incised "10" underside base, expected wear including crazing, 9 1/2" h., 10" dia.
