+Joined oak chest, New England, c. 1680, four panel front, two panel ends, two transverse pine floor boards, four panel joined back, single board top with chip carved ends appears original, three snipe hinges appear original, till with lid, wear consistent with age and use, feet worn, red and black wash not original, back untouched, original lock and hasp intact, sold as is, 26" h. x 52" w. x 23" d. [LITERATURE: Similar chests are discussed and illustrated in "The Woodworkers of Windsor, A Connecticut Community of Craftsmen and their World, 1635-1715," by Joshua lane and Donald P. White III; Historic Deerfield, 2003, Pgs 28-29, and categorized in the "Ogee Molding Group. Copy of booklet available to successful bidder." [PROVENANCE: Lillian Cogan receipt, 1971, available to successful buyer and reads in part "17th century New England framed oak chest with pine top- Origin Hartford circa 1680, Stiles (feet) are worn down."]
