+Joseph Solman (American, 1909- 2008), "Venus of 23rd St.", 1936, linocut, edition of 50, depicts alley way with tradesman signs depicting partially nude women, signed, dated, and numbered in graphite in lower margin, no. 38/50, hinged at top to folded frame with clear plastic overlay, wear consistent with age including even toning, a few pen marks, undulations of paper at edges, etc., paper size: 12 1/2" h. x 9 3/4" w. [NOTE: Solman (along with Mark Rothko) was the unofficial co-leader of The Ten, a group of expressionist painters exhibiting at the Mercury Galleries in 1938.
