Jules Bastien-Lepage (French, 1848-1884) "Portrait of Sarah Bernhardt" (French, 1844-1923), 1879, showing famous fin-de-siècle actress seated in profile, dressed in enormous lace collar and plumed boa, contemplating classical figurine in outstretched hand, stylized remarque of theatre mask LR corner, after a painting by the same artist, not in Beraldi, unknown, apparently uncommon edition, titled and dated UL plate, printed in black ink on light japan weave, sun damage and toning to left hand side, some wavering of paper, surface scratches to frame, matted and framed behind glass, not examined out of frame, ss: 11 5/8" h. x 9" w. [Bastien-Lepage's original portrait of Sarah Bernhardt (the basis for this print) won him the cross of the Légion d'Honneur in 1879; etching de-accessioned from a Connecticut museum]
