Late 18th/early 19th C. landscape painting attributed to Thomas Barker of Bath, (English, 1769-1847), "On the Heights Looking Towards the Welsh Coast", oil on canvas depicting two travelers and mules resting on hillside, valley with sea and cliffs visible in background, early paper "American Art Association/Anderson Galleries" label attached to stretcher provides sale name or seller as "George A. Hearn, Lot No. 26", title as the aforementioned, and artist as "Thomas Barker of Bath", minor isolated craquelure, early gilt carved and pierced frame with loss, checking, and peeling, not examined out of frame, ss: 11 3/4" h. x 17 1/4" w. [Provenance: No visible artist's signature was found, however research seems to confirm that this work was once owned by noted American art collector George A. Hearn, who gave many of his pieces to major art museums such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NYC. Sale records indicate that this painting was offered in a May 5, 1932 auction by the American Art Association/Anderson Galleries as lot 26.]
