Lillian Mathilde Genth (American, 1876-1953), "Pam", 1902, oil on canvas depicting bust of woman dressed as gypsy holding shallow basin, with off-the-shoulder vermillion wrap, gold hoop earrings, and jade bracelet on right wrist, signed "Lillian Genth" and dated LR, paper label verso partially pen inscribed "Pam", craquelure, isolated paint loss to basin, two retouched areas visible UL verso, black lighting reveals in-painting UR corner corresponding to retouched areas visible verso, retouching to figure's eyes, chest, and also isolated retouching along margins, not examined out of period gilt frame, ss: 26 1/4" h. x 20" w. [According to one exhibition catalog of Genth's work, the artist would sometimes dress up her friends in exotic costumes in order to paint their portraits; this may be an example of one such arrangement.]
