Description:

Man's costume, late 19th/ early 20th C., belonging to "Van S. Merle- Smith", museum provenance, four pieces, pants, jacket, collar and dickey, details include: red and black striped cotton jacket, double-breasted, lined with white and blue ticking, with tag "Van S. Merle-Smith"; pair of black woolen trousers, buttons on waistline, very full legs, with identifying tag; red flannel collar with cufflink closure with tag; and a striped vestee/ dickey in blue and red, with tag, all pieces with wear consistent with age and use, sold as found. [PROVENANCE: Deaccessioned to benefit the Slater Memorial Museum's acquisition fund.]
