Nicholas Ikaris (Greek, 20th C.), "Under the Sky", 1963, sculpture, faux copper composite, depicts a contemporary/ slightly abstracted mermaid lounging horizontally atop wavecrests, pierced head, hair, arms and tail, signed "N. Ikaris" on arm, copyright information on base near tail, faux blue patina, minor surface wear, 37" h. x 74" w. x 15" d. [Nicholas Ikaris was a 1950 graduate of the Fine Arts Acadamey in Athens, Ikaris received a number of important prizes in his homeland and abroad. His public sculptures can be found in Vienna, Dortmund, New York City, New Orleans and Ikaria. The City Hall of New York displays his statue "The Astronaut", which is dedicated to astronaut John Glenn.]
