Pair of 19th C. oil on board portraits of Rev. Charles Merwin and his wife Amelia (Oliphant) Merwin, c. 1840, no signatures visible, details include: Rev. Merwin depicted in three quarter profile with red drapery and naturalized background, ss: 25" h. x 21" w.; Mrs. Merwin is depicted with sausage curls and white shawl around black dress, ss: 25 1/2" h. x 21 1/2" w., both pieces in non-matching frame, not examined out of frame, previously restored, wear consistent with age including heavy varnish, craquelure, in-painting, etc.
