Pair of illustrations by Noel Sickles (American, 1910-1982) for "The Splendid Americans," c. 1969, ink, pencil, wash, and crayon on board, the first depicting "Dooley Doc Letting the Medicine Man Listen to His Own Heart Beat, titled, signed and dated along bottom margin along with publication notes, printout of image realized in "The Legacy of Tom Dooley" adhered to verso, unframed, overall 13 1/4" h. x 11 1/2" w.; the second depicting Caucasian female nurse walking with a small Native boy along animal lined roadway, titled, dated and signed along bottom margin along with notation "Unused - Item killed final story - Hold", inscribed verso in ink with artist, title and date information, unframed, overall 13" h. x 11 1/4" w., both pieces with expected wear including some toning to board and bending of corners.
