New England needlework schoolgirl sampler by Betsey Dodd, age 9, American, likely Connecticut, 1799, silk on linen, oblong composition with rows of alphabet and numeric, signed "BETSEY DODD WAS IN HER 9 YEAR WHEN SHE MADE THIS AUGUST 1799", followed by short poem or phrase, etc., pictorial scene of house, figure, picket fence and chickens, white doves in upper corners, ensconced by cross-stitch border, framed behind glass, not examined out of frame, wear consistent with age including thread loss, expected minor staining and toning, etc., sold as is, ss: 12" h. x 7 3/4" w.
