Description:

Sampler c. 1816, Providence, by Mary Eddy with alphabets, numerals and verse, inscribed "Mary Eddy. Providence August 1816", with verse titled "The Contrast" - "Virtue along has that to give/Which makes it joy to die or live/but vice can only that supply/which makes it pain to live or die", framed under glass, ss: 8 1/4" h. x 12 1/4" w. [Bucklin and Eddy descended thru same family; lineage available]. Sampler published in "The American Sampler" by Bolton and Coe, in 1921, page 153, (reprinted by Dover in 1973).
