SAMPLER: Early 19th C. sampler, colored linen thread on linen, 1827, four alpha-numeric rows featuring cross stitch and other techniques, signed with names John Wallace, Janet Leggat Smith, Agnes Smith, William Smith, Janet Caldwell, and others, dated at center, lower half depicting large two chimney mansion behind double gateway, also depicting floral bouquets, trees, and birds, 1/2" l. tear located in center second row, some fading, darkening, and loss, framed behind glass, not examined out of rosewood veneer frame, ss: 17" h. x 14 3/4" w.
