SAMPLERS: Two embroidered Continental samplers, early to mid-19th C., details include: smaller embroidered square dated 1810, Dutch, colored thread on linen, features lower and upper case in varied fonts as well as numbers, lower half features lemon trees in pots, strawberries, baskets of lemons, etc., signed with initials "EVDH" and dated 1810 below, toning, scattered light stains, one 1" wide ink stain at upper right, 13 1/4" h. x 12" w.; second embroidery sampler dated 1846, Switzerland, unfinished, red and white on white lawn, features alphabet and numbers with the names of presumed friends around border, dated at bottom, motifs include doves, lyre, cross, etc., some mends, toning, light stains, loose threads, etc., 18 1/2" h. x 18 1/2" w., both samplers stored loose on acid free board under protective plastic cover, both with wear consistent with age and use and may include toning, small holes, stains, etc., both sold as found.
