Samuel Joel "Zero" Mostel (American, 1915-1977), "Anatevka (Fiddler Picture)", 1964- 75, oil on canvas, abstract composition of multiple colorful figures with cityscape background, label verso, framed, wear consistent with age, ss: 40" h. x 30" w. [On September 22, 1964, Mostel opened as Tevye in the original Broadway production of Fiddler on the Roof. He also created the cantorial sounds made famous in the song "If I Were a Rich Man". The New York Times wrote "Zero Mostel's Tevye is so penetrating and heartwarming that you all but forget that it is a performance."][PROVENANCE: Davis Collection.]
