SILVER: Matthew Boulton (English, 1728 - 1809) George III sterling hot water pot/ jug on stand, 1809, in the neoclassical taste, the jug with bowl-shaped body and tall waisted collar, plain beaked spout and hinge, domed lid with flattened orb finial, decorated with raised banding, crested wooden handle with scroll mount, raised on a sterling frame with three ring drops over incurved legs terminating in lion's paw feet, legs joined by a circular stretcher en suite mounted to burner, removable top (not hallmarked but tested silver at rim and standard), hallmarked to lid interior and base with lion passant, anchor, "l" mark (Birmingham date letter for 1809), George III mark, and "M B" (maker's mark for Matthew Boulton, entered 1797), wear consistent with age and use including small nicks to edges, small notch to handle, surface wear, etc., total height of jug on stand: 11 1/8" h. x 5 1/2" diam. (weight of all pieces: 33.7 ozt.)
