Solomon Stow (Southington, CT, b. 1823) short case stenciled half pillar and splat shelf clock, circa 1830, painted white face with Roman numerals and polychrome floral spandrels, wooden case with shaped crest featuring a stenciled cornucopia, column pilasters at sides, lower glass panel with reverse painting of white house and pond with gilt accents, front hairy paw feet, interior label in good condition, hands original and case with original finish, replaced weights, minor veneer replacement on front and splits on veneer surrounding glass, stenciling in good plus original condition, one toe missing on right foot, dial with old shellac now darkened, both glasses replaced, 28 3/4" h. [Stow often used movements by other makers and rarely seen is a movement made by him, thus this clock with one of his manufactured movements is uncommon][Consultant recommends that the dial can be materially improved by Dial House II, GA]
