Steel strongbox with etched decoration, 16th C., Southern Germany, probably Nuremberg c. 1580, rectangular form with lock in hinged lid, keyhole hidden by a swiveling rosette, intricately decorated with knights in armor, hunting scenes, etc., each end decorated with mythical figure include woman with bat wings, and one with split mermaid tail, possibly dated on cover "1571" etched onto sign hanging from tree near left border, rectangular form with swing handle, hinged cover, raised on four ball feet, key and lock to cover, interior with intricate locking mechanism, wear consistent with age and use, some small cracks and bends of metal, etc., sold as is, 5" h. x 8 1/2" w. x 4 1/4" d.
