TEXTILE: Pieced quilt in stripes of tan, dark green, and gray silk, c. 1840-1860, silk and cotton, the "gray" silk is actually shot black and white with a thin woven stripe of white that has the effect of a tambour stitch, the quilting is a double diamond grid pattern, with cream silk thread at an even ten stitches to the inch, the backing is tan glazed cotton ("cambric"), condition is very good considering age and use, the backing has some tideline stains and loss of color that do not show on the front, sold as found, 104" l. x 100" w. [PROVENANCE: Purchased in New Jersey, probably Quaker.]
