TEXTILE: Red and blue (originally green) appliqué cotton quilt in the Whig Rose pattern, c.1840-1860, worked with solid cottons, and one double pink calico, on white background, one block with has swirly stems; rest are straight stems, bound with cotton tape, finely quilted with diagonal background quilting and following the motifs, quilted with white cotton thread at 9 stitches to the inch, backing fabric is inscribed in brown ink, but turned to the inside, it appears to say "12 vests 20 cts. / Mrs. David Northrup / Newtown.", the backing of the quilt is also a fabric commonly used to line men's vests, 94" x 83".
