Description:

TEXTILE: Red and white cotton quilt, c. 1840-1870, with a combination pieced and appliqued design of four-pointed stars with crescent designs between points (pattern name unknown) and small duck foot designs in the corners of each block, the motifs are made of red and white (originally probably with some yellow) calico, and the background is plain white, around the borders is an appliqued leafy vine, made of the same fabric, the edges are bound with the white fabric cut on the straight grain, the backing is the same plain white cotton., the quilting is relatively sparse, with curled V shapes in the corners of the blocks, along with leaf motifs and outline quilting within the stars, the border is outline quilted, quilting is done in white cotton thread at about 6 stitches to the inch, very good condition, scattered minor brown spots, 92" x 86".
