TEXTILE: Two bed covers: the first a white cotton bed cover, c. 1810-1840, embroidered with white cotton yarn with a field of paisley patterns, surrounded by a leafy vine border, stitches include chain, satin, and buttonhole, the edges are cut in scallops, finished with buttonhole stitching with fringe, good-fair condition, has scattered small tears, 83" x 68" (inc. fringe); The second an embroidered bed cover, c. 1800-1850, worked on a possibly home-woven linen/cotton fabric, the embroidery is worked with heavy white cotton thread in a padded satin stitch, outline stitch, cut loop stitch, and outline stitch, there are also eyelets worked in some of the floral motifs, the design features a central, large floral motif surrounded by an undulating border of a sprigged and feather border, the outer border features grape clusters and roses, there is white cotton fringe, possibly hand-woven, around all four sides, very good condition, small L-shaped tear along one edge, another couple of small holes along same side, very minor yellowing, 118" L x 102" W. (inc. 2 1/2-inch fringe on all four sides).
