TEXTILE: Whitework ("candlewick") bedspread, c. 1790-1825, bedspread of white linen/cotton dimity (woven with a cord rib-the selvage width is about 32 inches) embroidered with thick, white cotton yarn in a looped running stitch (as commonly used in bed rugs), the design recalls Connecticut whole cloth quilt and bed rug designs, with a central stylized floral motif surrounded by undulating floral vines, there is a motif at the lower center resembling a pineapple sprouting leafy stems, T-shaped, with a linen tape binding, good condition, but it has edge wear, especially across the top, two small holes on right side, light tide stains down center, yellowing on center crease, 94 1/2" l. x 98" w.
