TEXTILES: Matching bed cover and tester for a field bed, made of copperplate-printed cotton, c. 1780-1800 fabric; made up into bed cover and hangings in the early 19th century, the pattern repeat is about 45 inches and features several rural cottage scenes of people picking apples, a woman at a doorway with a basket of potatoes and her husband coming in from the fields; a family gathered for an outdoor picnic, three sides of the tester are edged with netted cotton fringe, the edges of all pieces are bound with linen tape, and then the ruffle is whipped-stitched to the tester, Bed cover: T-shaped, with tape-bound edges; condition: tester: good; there are a couple of tears and the fabric feels stiff; very dusty; bed cover: good, but fragile; T-shaped tear at lower left corner; two horizontal tears near top edge, each about 2 inches long, tester: 106" L x 110 w (inc. 4" fringe); bed cover: 99" L x 98" w.
