Three lithographs of Native Americans form McKenney and Hall's "Indian Tribes of North America", c. 1830s, after drawings by C. B. King; E.C. Biddle and Key & Biddle publishers, Philadelphia, including: "Payta Kootha, A Shawnee Warrior", Flying Clouds was a Shawnee Chief, he signed several treaties including the Treaty of Greenville in 1795 and an 1825 treaty by which the Shawnee surrendered all claim to land east of the Mississippi, uneven toning; "Hayne Hudjihini /Eagle of Delight", her beauty and charm captivated President Monroe and members of the Cabinet, she was one of Shaumonekusse's five wives, and was thought to be the most beautiful of all the Native American wives who visited Washington, she was about eighteen when Charles Bird King painted her portrait, sadly, she died of the measles soon after returning home, scattered staining; and "Sequoyah" (1776-1843) (holding paper with alphabet) was known locally as George Guess and he was the son of a mixed-breed named Gist, Guess or Guest, possibly Nathaniel Gist, Revolutionary soldier and trader, and a Cherokee woman, he developed a syllabary that is still in use today, primarily in Cherokee language churches, mat burn, stain over shoulder, all in matching frames with wear, 23 3/4" h. x 19" w., all with wear consistent with age including toning, staining, mat burn, etc., all sold as found.
