Tilt top Boston candlestand, late 18th C., mahogany, shaped square top with serpentine sides, urn Federal shaft over three cabriole legs with slipper feet, barely legible "VETHAKE" written in script under top, early finish, checking, old repairs, plug and metal spider to base with three hand-forged nails, minor breakout of stem, crack at table swivel joint, scratches and wear consistent with age, 28" h. x 20" w. x 20 1/2" l. [Family Provenance: table documented as being owned by the Vethacke(n) family; Fredrick Albrecht Vethaken (Prussian, 1756 - 1810) and most of his household arrived in Boston in 1797 from the Dutch Colony of Demerara, Guyana, South America, as evidenced by their passports. The family later moved from Boston to New Jersey in 1798 and New York City in 1800.]
