TRIBAL: Navajo transitional blanket, c.1880-1890, red ground with black, cream, and green accents, three horizontal zigzagging bands, center row with three diamonds, homespun, commercial dye, isolated holes and unraveling sections particularly at center, edge wear, minor moth damage, 69 1/4" l. x 48 1/2" w. [Oral history maintains that this blanket was collected by William Ireland Starr (Bridgeport, CT, b. 1877) during a trip "out West" in the early 20th C. Starr was a neighbor of Samuel Clemens in Redding, CT, and the great-great uncle of the consignor.]
