Two 19th C. printed documents, one Diagrammatic lithographical illustration of British dirigible "The Eagle" and a Hartford Insurance Company 1873 Policy Document, details include: Diagrammatic lithographical illustration of British dirigible, "The Eagle," with various components lettered, A through E, with accompanying explanatory key beneath, hand-coloured, captioned at top "An exact representation of the first Aerial Ship, the Eagle", framed and matted behind glass, not examined out of frame, wear consistent with age and use with some damages including 1" tear at LR edge, mat burn, light toning and staining, etc., ss: 9" h. x 11 1/2" w. [NOTE: Jules Henri Giffard, a brilliant steam engineer, worked with the Comte de Lennox, a French military officer, to develop the Eagle, a balloon designed to be rowed across the sky. The craft was exhibted in London but was destroyed by an angry mob in Paris when it failed to ascenter on August 17, 1834. Giffard successfully his airship in 1852.]; and a Hartford Insurance Company 1873 Policy Document, printed with details filled in by hand, document insures Cobleskill, N.Y. property for the amount of $1200, and that use of kerosene oil for light is permitted, etc., signatures of secretary and president printed at base with signature of agent, matted and framed behind glass, not examined out of frame, wear consistent with age and use including original creases, toning, small areas of foxing, etc., ss: 16 1/2" h. x 10 1/2" w.; frame size: 22" h. x 15 3/4" w.
